Frequency Festival 2025

There are those moments when you find an awesome project, make new friends, and present it all at Chicago’s best festival for contemporary music.  Last Wednesday evening was one of those moments!  After spending many months of planning and workshops, we were able to unveil two truly original works by David Bird and Julie Zhu that offered an incredibly fun and unique commentary on artificial intelligence’s role on the human experience.  Whether it was performing a robot autopsy in David’s Hypochondriac or curiously drawing on a board with spatialized contact microphones in Julie’s TacocaT , we had fun, and based on the light hearted giggles and laughs we heard while performing, so did our audience!  It is not everyday one can spend time working on creative projects that get your hands filthy of chalk and then go pretend to remove robot guts from your colleague, but Adam and I managed to find that wonderful sweet spot between work and play.  A huge thank you to Peter Margasak who trusted us enough with a cool idea to let us be on this year’s Frequency Festival as well as Hannah Edgar who took the time to do a writeup of the show leading to our concert.  Keep a look out for us reprising David’s work in Santa Fe in June at the Currents New Media Festival!
